Is it wrong that I want to have twins just so I can get them to where these tee-shirts to satisfy my inner geekness?

Interestingly, I am working in 3D Max right now, and Ctrl+V is for “Clone”.

stainning – the bane of my existence

October 26, 2009

Our contractor bought us some solid poplar trims with the intentions of painting it. Upon inspection, we noticed how nice the wood was and how shameful it would be to cover it with paint. We wanted him to stain it, but he declined citing how long it would take and that he did not budget himself for it, so if we wanted him to do it, we would have to pay him more. We stubbbornly took it upon ourselves and decided that we were going to it. Many days and nights of stainning and sanding later and I am finally done with the first batch of the trims base boards and moldings and doorframes. And they look pretty darn hot if I say so myself. Oh, and now the contractor wants to stain all his future trims after seeing our result.

The photo below shows the original wood on the left and the stained ones on the right.

good idea? bad idea! – regretsy

Don’t get me wrong, is a great site, but some of the things on there deserves a raising of the eye-brow. basically collects the best of the worst for your reading pleasure.  Hayley and I have an ongoing joke about things looking like it’s homemade, so this made me giggle a bit on the inside.

Can’t find an appropriate present for that environmental conscious friend? Feeling too guilty about the products are you consuming and dumping? Don’t want to give your cash to the evil cycle? TerraCycle may be the cure to your blues and greens.

Being a gadget nerd, and an occasional chips connoisseur , I am really interested in the Frito-Lay speakers.  Eco-chic aside, the colours are fantastic on these speakers.

warm and fuzzy

Last thursday, we had our final wall insulated. Because of the location of the stair we couldn’t build out the north wall for insulation like all the other walls. So instead, we went the expensive route and got spray insulation installed there. It was a pretty fast and painless process. The whole thing took just over two hours, although we had to vacant the property for 24 hrs but since we haven’t moved in yet, it was easy peasy.

hard at work…

October 19, 2009

We rolled up our sleves over the pass weekends and started drywalling the rooms that we are not getting the contractors to do in an effort to save money. It’s good to get our hands dirty and see progress. Plus, I finally got to use the cordless drill Hayley got me for my birthday.

I stumbled upon this great evite from someecards and just had to put it on here.  It speaks volumes about what we are going to be – house broke.  Games night anyone?

sidewalk sighting – little portugal

October 10, 2009

I was on my way to pick up some coffee for the contractors when I saw her sun bathing on the sidewalk. “the sidewalk is an odd place to see this I thought to myself”. I was trying not to stare but her bare skin was too damn glistening to ignore. I found myself salivating as I stepped closer and notice man twice myself watching over her. Despite his intimidating pressence, I somehow I fould the courage to ask him “can take a photograph of her?” He replied “sure.” I hastily took a couple of shots and walked away thinkimg about how delicious she looked and whispering to myself “someday, I’ll find my own… My own sidewalk roasted pig”

Nothing beats a couple of ice-cold beers after a long hot day of construction.  A couple of ice-cold beers during construction is a different story all-together.
