postcarden by A Studio for Design

March 10, 2010

Designed by London designer Aimée Furnival of A Studio for Design, the postcarden is just awe-inspiring.  You simply open, grow, and admire.  I didn’t think anything can make pop-up cards better, I stand corrected.

lego – nakagin capsule tower

November 13, 2009

the Nakagin Capsule Tower is one of the best examples of Japanese Metabolism.  Unfortunately, it will be taken down in the near future for a more conforming building.  This Lego creation perfectly encapsulate the essence of the building, even down the fact that each capsule can unplug from the main structure.

when a barcode is not just a barcode

November 11, 2009

Barcodes can be found on just about everything we buy today, and from what Hayley tells me, they are always a pain to incorporate into the packaging design.  Well, why not turn that eyesore into something of an eye candy.  Design Barcode has been doing this for years, mainly with Japanese clientele.  Designs start at $1,500 for a ready made design, plus a licensing fee of $200 per year.  A custom and exclusive design will cost you $4,000.  This might not be much for major retail products, but for things like limited-print-books, the pricing can be a bit steep.  Plus, I don’t think that it would be that hard to do.

inspiration – NYC spaghetti

November 4, 2009

Oh spaghetti, you are an architect’s best friend.  Not only are you affordable for a starving architecture students, you also lend yourself well for cheap modeling materials.  Thanks to Alex Creamer‘s packaging idea, you finally get your iconic status.

copy and paste

October 27, 2009

Is it wrong that I want to have twins just so I can get them to where these tee-shirts to satisfy my inner geekness?

Interestingly, I am working in 3D Max right now, and Ctrl+V is for “Clone”.

inspiration – TerraCycle

October 26, 2009

Can’t find an appropriate present for that environmental conscious friend? Feeling too guilty about the products are you consuming and dumping? Don’t want to give your cash to the evil cycle? TerraCycle may be the cure to your blues and greens.

Being a gadget nerd, and an occasional chips connoisseur , I am really interested in the Frito-Lay speakers.  Eco-chic aside, the colours are fantastic on these speakers.

inspiration – Charlotte Mann

October 8, 2009

Charlotte Mann’s work is just blowing my mind in so many ways.  My love for sharpie markers just went up another notch.  If I was so brave, and talented, I would do this to one of my walls.  This may be the inspiration to get me back into illustrating again.  Make sure you check out the rest of her work on her website.

inspiration – wedding invitation almost as good as ours

September 29, 2009

Okay, maybe it is even better.  This is a pretty clever idea, not just for wedding, but for any occasions: birthday, anniversary, graduation, etc.  Now I just have to have an event with a story that’s interesting enough.
